Delegate Kristen J. Amundson
Kris Amundson represents Virginia’s 44th District in southeastern
Fairfax County. Elected in 2001, she serves on two committees:
Counties, Towns and Cities; and Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural
Resources.
Before being elected as a member of the General Assembly, Amundson
served for nearly a decade on the Fairfax County School Board,
including two years as its chairman. In 1999, she was President of
the Virginia School Boards Association. She served on the Commission
on the Future of Public Education in Virginia and the Commission on
Educational Accountability.
Amundson is the president of KJA Communications, an educational
communications business located in Alexandria, Virginia. The company
develops and writes educational materials for school administrators,
school board members, parents, teachers, and students. She is the
author of the books, School Violence: Safeguarding Our Children, and Kids Don't Come with Instruction Books.
Kris Amundson has been actively involved in community
organizations and was president of the Westgrove Citizens Association
and New Hope Housing, which operates homeless shelters in Fairfax
County. In 2001, she was named a Flemming Fellow, recognizing her as
one of the new leaders in statehouses across the country. She is a
member of the Vestry of historic Christ Church in Alexandria. Her
daughter, Sara, graduated from West Potomac High School and attended Princeton University.
Her legislative record includes:
- Giving incentives to teachers to retain and attract the best
educators to Virginia
- Steamlining state government for efficiency and reforming
budget accountability
- Ensuring that all women with breast or cervical cancer …
regardless of income … can receive quality health care.
- Protecting Virginia’s first responders against air and
blood-borne diseases
- Leading the fight for legislation to choose our own doctors and
to hold HMOs accountable for bad decisions.
- Continuing to fight for our fair share of transportation
dollars.
