[October 25, 2002] Senator
Paul Wellstone, campaigning this year for reelection to a third term
in the U.S. Senate died in northern Minnesota in a tragic airplane crash
in which there were no survivors. Also dead in the crash were his wife,
daughter, three campaign workers, and the two pilots. Sen. Wellstone
served with energy and devotion to the people of Minnesota and the whole
nation. A staunch liberal, Sen. Wellstone championed progressive causes
that he hoped would create a better, cleaner, healthier, and safer society.
He will be greatly missed. Paul Wellstone, 1944-2002

[August 9, 2002] VYD Membership Director
Bill Kuster was featured in Issue 30, Volume II of the "Demo Memo,"
a Democratic Party of Virginia periodical. Under the "Why I Am
a Democrat" section, he wrote:
I am a Democrat because the Democrats
are the party of the future. The Democratic Party understands that
by taking care of the environment now, our future and the future
of our children is better. The Democratic Party understands that
cheap financial tricks and deficits only mortgage our children's
future and ruin the economy. I am proud to support a party that
analyzes transportation, education, and growth issues constantly
with an eye towards what is right and not what is right now politically.
I will always be a Democrat because we truly care about people and
the future and not our own arrogance of power.
