Elementary Art Contest
“What I Like Best About Living in the 44th District”
The original two-dimensional artwork should highlight an area landmark, activity, or event that symbolizes what is best about living in the 44th District. Students may choose the media, but the artwork may be no larger than 22 inches by 28 inches. Please label the back of each piece of art with the title and medium of the work, as well as the student’s name, address, telephone number, school, and grade level. Students selected for this program must live or attend school in the 44th District. (Use the “Who’s My Legislator?” button on the Virginia General Assembly web site at http://legis.state.va.us to find out if your home or school lies within the boundaries of the 44th.
Every participating student will receive a certificate. Four first place winners will each receive a $100 savings bond, donated by Elsie’s Magic Skillet, Hollin Hall Automotive, Power Video, and Grant Schneider II, DDS.

The entries will be judged by professional artists Jane Andrle Gillette, a graphic artist; Gretchen Raber, a goldsmith and jewelry designer; and Kelly St. Clair, a freelance artist and former FCPS art teacher. Students with entries selected for first, second, and third place awards will be contacted by Friday, January 16. Remaining entries must be picked up by Tuesday, January 20.
Kris Amundson, Virginia State Delegate, 44th District, is sponsoring this art contest. The first place winners will be introduced at Delegate Amundson’s Town Meeting on Saturday, January 17. Their artwork will be framed and displayed in Delegate Amundson’s office in the General Assembly Building in Richmond for one year.
Artwork chosen to receive second and third place awards will be exhibited in the Sherwood Regional Library for several weeks. All winners’ names will be submitted to the Mount Vernon Gazette, Mount Vernon Voice, and Fairfax Journal. The Friends of Sherwood Regional Library will sponsor a reception for the winners and their families.
